We’ll admit it: Over the past couple of months, we have definitely appreciated glamping a bit more, especially when we came across ZiegenVine Homestead. In other words, we’ve really enjoyed finding properties through www.hipcamp.com that offer cabins. Cabins are a great way to appreciate the outdoors and get some fresh air while also having a shelter. ZiegenVine Homestead offers its guests a wooden cabin on their beautiful piece of property in upstate New York.

**Quick Note: If you’re interested in finding some really cool campsites, no matter where you are in the United States, we’d suggest Hipcamp! They definitely have some loose straws to straighten out, but overall we’ve been satisfied with the variety of properties on the site! Location of ZiegenVine Homestead

The farm is located in Savona, New York. The property is located just 22 miles from Watkins Glen 4.5 hours from New York City.  The property is absolutely gorgeous and they have plenty of goats and chickens if you’re into the farm life. Randy and Allison give their visitors the option to either pitch a tent on their property or stay in their rustic and primitive cabin.

Amenities Of ZiegenVine Homestead

During our stay, we slept in their beautiful cabin on the property. The owners provided us with plenty of firewood, kindling, matches, and even farm fresh eggs for breakfast! Their large piece of property offers hiking trails, a scenic sunset, and Goat Yoga during certain mornings. Goat Yoga was something we had never come across before! Essentially, for $20 a person, you take an hour and a half yoga class while surrounded with goats.

Before booking your stay at the cabin, you must take into consideration that the cabin has no electricity, bed, running water, or toilet. The closest toilet is a very clean porter potty, but its a pretty far walking distance. The cabin did have a rug, rocking chair, and extra camping materials inside in case you forgot anything. It was much larger than we expected and could have easily (and comfortably) slept 4 people. Being that the property is so large, you also feel incredibly secluded. Randy and Allison from ZiegenVine Homestead quickly greet you upon your arrival onto the farm. For the rest of the night, we were accompanied by peace and quiet, a clear night sky, and a warm fire!ZiegenVine Homestead in Upstate New York | Rustic Cabin new Watkins Glen Campsite Review

This was the “driveway” that led us to our secluded cabin and campsite.

If you’re into waking up early (and have an affinity for animals), the owners are more than willing to teach you how to milk a goat and hold a kid (just a fancy term for a baby goat). It’s an incredibly rewarding experience and I highly recommend inquiring about it if you have the same passion for animals as I do!

Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen State Park is only 22 miles away, which was about a 30-minute drive south. The State Park was the main reason we went to this part of upstate New York. Watkins Glen is the most famous Finger Lakes State Park and for obvious reasons: It’s absolutely breathtaking featuring a gorge, a continuous stream of water, and your fair share of beautiful waterfalls. Just note that while ZiegenVine Homestead allows pets, the Gorge Trail (which is the main scenic trail) of Watkins Glen State Park does not permit pets. If you choose to visit the campsite to see Watkins Glen State Park, you may want to consider leaving your pet at home unless you plan on staying more than one night.

Things to Do In Area

Aside from Watkins Glen State Park, there is also Montour Falls, New York near the campsite. It’s great for some pictures and long exposure shots of the huge waterfall, but you probably won’t be there for more than 10 minutes. If you still haven’t gotten your fill of waterfalls, you can visit Hector Falls. Furthermore, you’ll have the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, Rooster Fish Brewing Tasting Room, Castel Grisch, and horse stables for riding.
