If you’re a nature fan and in the Naples area, you NEED to add the Bird Gardens of Naples to your to-do list. Something you may not know about me: My family and I have owned birds pretty much our entire life. Recently over the past few years, we lost our beloved peach-faced loved bird, Melon. Visiting the Bird Gardens of Naples was a great way to reminisce and learn about a large variety of Parrot species!

What to Expect: Birds, Birds, & More Birds!

The Bird Gardens of Naples is a non-profit organization focused on rescuing, re-homing, and rehabilitating abandoned or abused birds. Furthermore, they make it their mission to plain and simply take the birds that no one else may want due to their aggression, social, or other issues. What many people don’t understand is how complex and intelligent a Parrot is when buying them. More often than not, people buy these birds when they are babies and quickly get overwhelmed with their size, social needs, life span, or personalities as they get older.

When Can You Visit?

In order to visit the Bird Gardens of Naples, you need to schedule a tour at either 11 am or 1:30 pm. The tour is free, while donations are welcome. Throughout the tour, you’ll get an idea of how the facility cares for more than 100 birds (including endangered and rare species) from around the globe. You will also enter a large aviary and meet the ambassador birds towards the end. The tour lasts for about 2 hours with 2 miles of walking. Don’t let that scare you off though – it really feels as though it’s MUCH less than that! Throughout the tour, you’re also permitted to feed the birds unsalted nuts (be sure there are no peanuts – those can be deadly to birds!). The facility also encourages you to bring environmentally friendly sunscreen and bug spray.

Check out some of these amazing shots I got of these beautiful, healthy, and happy birds. It was a privilege to learn about all the different species and experience some of these birds LARGE personalities!
